This week is dragon week!

Our 3 inquiry tasks this week are:

1. Explore Dragonsville and discover the truth about dragons

2. Finding out about dragons and filling in the T-chart on Characteristics of Dragons

3. Reading Emily and the Dragon and discovering that modern versions of dragons are quite different.

Castles in the Middle Ages – an introduction

Today as a class, using the Smartboard, we are going explore and learn all about early castle building before you work in your Inquiry Groups to explore parts of a castle and complete your tasks.

First we are going to learn about the very first kind of castles built – the Motte and Bailey Castle.

Now we are going to watch a YouTube video clip showing a real stone castle.  CAERPHILLY CASTLE

and a video clip which shows important PARTS OF A STONE CASTLE


INQUIRY GROUPS – CASTLE WEEK ACTIVITIES

COMPUTER GROUP – you will be exploring castles using interactive websites.

You will need:

  • your T-chart “Exploring Parts of a Castle”

  • Visit THE PARTS OF A CASTLE website and read facts about the different parts of a castle. Write dot points into your T-chart and draw a picture of what each part looks like.

  • Fast Finishers: If you find any other interesting parts of a castle that you want to share with us, write your facts on the back of your page and draw a picture.
